Joyce Carter believes that two simple activities with tremendous educational value aren’t being used enough in grammar school classrooms.
First, after having her first graders read a story on their own, Carter asks them to draw a picture about what they have just read.
But the kicker is what happens next: Carter invites each child to the front of the classroom to share a few words about how the story related to his or her life.
