The Sociedad Española, founded in 1974 as a cultural organization to promote Spanish culture, traditions and the language, presented the inaugural Maria Garcia Daly essay contest award Oct. 20. Daly was a founding member of the society.
Ascension of Our Lord Knights of Columbus Council #9623 recently awarded the Louisiana Knights of Columbus Triple Star Award at the New Orleans diocesan meeting Sept. 16. This was the only council in Louisiana to achieve this honor this year for new member recruiting. Grand Knight Mike Abbate was also awarded as top recruiter in the state for the 2018-2019 Columbian calendar year!
The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati recently celebrated the installation of their newly elected Leadership Team during a liturgy in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse. The team was elected during the 2019 Sisters of Charity Chapter, held March 31–April 5, 2019, at the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse in Delhi Township (Cincinnati).

On May 15, Ascension of Our Lord, Knights of Columbus, Council 9623, awarded Katherine Bergeron with a plaque as the winner of the International Soccer Challenge Competition at her seventh-grade graduation. Katherine placed first in the 13-year-old age group of the local soccer competition, first in the Archdiocesan Soccer Challenge Competition and first at State Soccer Challenge. Her winning totals were deemed best in the world in the 13-year-old age group.

The Catholic Men of Christ held a healing service Aug. 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Churchb in Kenner. Fr. Robert Joel-Cruz, event facilitator and pastor at St. Andrew Church in Amelia in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, travels to parishes with his healing ministry. He concelebrated Mass with his brother, Father Alexander (Alex) Cruz, who was in town from Divine Mercy Parish in Rahway, New Jersey.
Alexandra Martin and Brandon Dillon earned a Catholic Youth Leadership Award scholarship from Ascension of Our Lord, Knights Of Columbus Council 9623. They were presented a plaque and a check at a Knights of Columbus 9623 meeting March 26 and will advance to the next level of competition.
On Dec. 18, the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Hispanic Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New Orleans celebrated a Mass in thanksgiving for the donors and their families at St. Anthony of Padua Chapel. Dominican Father Sergio Serrano, director of the Hispanic Apostolate, was the celebrant.
