Ursuline Academy made a fitting tribute to retired coach Pat Taylor on Feb. 24 when the administration dedicated its newly constructed softball facility in her honor.
In a ceremony prior to the Lions’ season-opening softball game against De La Salle, Ursuline President Karen McNay formally named the facility “Miss Pat Taylor Softball Field.”
The “Grand Lady of Coaching” spent 40 years mentoring and overseeing girls’ athletics at Ursuline.
Taylor began coaching at the Uptown school in 1950 following an outstanding high school playing career at Holy Name of Jesus School, which later became Mercy Academy.
During her long tenure, Taylor coached volleyball, basketball, indoor ball, swimming, track and field and cross country.
When she retired in the late 1990s, Taylor continued to support Ursuline athletics.
