Ursuline Academy of New Orleans has named Glenn Gennaro as interim president for the 2012-13 school year, as the Academy accelerates its search for a permanent president of the 284-year-old institution.
As interim president, Gennaro will oversee school operations and administration, working with Ursuline’s High School Principal John Gabriel and Elementary School Principal Kim Harper to maintain the academy’s academic progress and ongoing facility construction. Gennaro will not be a candidate for the permanent title of president.
“Glenn has a long-standing relationship with the Ursuline community, having served as a member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees. His leadership and four decades of education experience will be invaluable during this time of transition and excitement on State Street. We look forward to working together,” said Eugene Priestley, chair of the Ursuline Academy of New Orleans Board of Trustees.
Gennaro’s arrival at Ursuline Academy is the latest leadership position for a 40-year veteran of Catholic and public education in metro New Orleans. He has previously served as principal of the Jefferson Community School, St. Clement of Rome School and Pope John Paul II High School, as well as the director of guidance at Jesuit High School.
The Ursuline Board of Trustees continues to work to identify a new president, following all of the academy’s guidelines and by-laws and expects to name the academy’s new leader by the end of 2012.
“Ursuline Academy’s most recent chapter in its 284-year history in New Orleans has been one of its most successful. Our graduating high school seniors have consistently set school records in the amount of college scholarships earned,” Priestly said. “Our Sister Teresita Rivet Early Childhood Center will welcome a record number of students next school year and our new health and wellness center is on target to open by the first of the year.
