Capt. Alfortish presented student Madison Vise with her U.S. Naval Academy appointment. She also received the Pat Taylor Athlete award from Ursuline High School principal Alice Bairnsfather.
Ursuline Academy senior Madison Vise was recognized at a May 2 awards ceremony for her official appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Captain Lester Alfortish, Blue and Gold Officer for the Naval Academy, presented Vise with her appointment letter and scholarship, valued at $400,000. Although Vise chose to go Navy, she was also accepted to the United States Military Academy (West Point). Thousands of students apply to military academies every year and only a small percentage are offered an appointment. The fact that Madison was accepted to both is a true testament to her hard work, academic excellence and strength of character.
“Ursuline has given me the foundation I need and motivated me to pursue a career dedicated to service and sacrifice,” Vise said. “Overall, I feel more driven and determined than ever.”
During the same awards ceremony, in addition to numerous academic awards in various subject areas, Vise was awarded Ursuline’s most prestigious athletic award – the Pat Taylor Senior Athlete Award.
