The University of Holy Cross (UHC), formerly Our Lady of Holy Cross College, has formed a partnership with Delgado Community College allowing qualified Delgado students with an associate’s degree in business administration to be admitted as juniors at the university.
The new articulation agreement, signed in June, will permit the Delgado students to enroll as juniors provided they meet UHC’s admission requirements.
In addition, Delgado students with an associate of applied science degree in accounting will be admitted as juniors in the business administration department of UHC.
Students can transfer up to 60 semester hours for degree credit from Delgado to UHC. This is a 2+2 program in which Delgado students will earn a bachelor’s degree from UHC after successfully completing at least 60 additional semester hours in their respective program at UHC and meeting all UHC degree requirements.
The renewable agreement will be for a period of three years.
“This agreement provides a pre-defined pathway for Delgado Community College graduates to continue their studies at University of Holy Cross,” said Dr. David “Buck” Landry, president of the University of Holy Cross.
“This partnership between our two institutions lowers the cost of earning a degree for students, while still graduating within four years. Furthermore, students earn two degrees instead of one, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Holy Cross and an associate degree from Delgado Community College.”
UHC already has had an articulation agreement with Delgado for its business administration program.
UHC will begin offering a bachelor of science in accounting degree beginning this fall. The degree prepares graduates with deep accounting knowledge, communication and problem-solving skills to work as accounting professionals in a wide range of settings – businesses, not-for-profit organizations or governmental agencies.
The distinguishing feature of this program is an inclusion of CPA-track classes into the core curriculum. Throughout the course of learning, the program will emphasize the development of ethical practices, devotion to community service and competency.
“This partnership is a wonderful opportunity for students,” said Joan Y. Davis, chancellor of Delgado Community College. “Delgado students who graduate from a connected degree program leverage their first two years of college through our affordable tuition and reduce the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree by transferring to an institution like UHC where they are accepted as juniors.
“We believe that this and other such agreements are an enormous benefit to our students. Our goal must continue to be the elimination of confusion, stress and delay as our students transition from two-year to four-year institutions.”
