Undefeated Rummel, Bro. Martin to vie

It had been 50 years since a tri-parish high school football team in the highest classification entered the sixth week of the prep football season without having yielded a single touchdown.

But Archbishop Rummel has finally accomplished that feat as the Raiders prepare for their Oct. 12 District 9-5A  game against Brother Martin in a battle of the unbeatens at Joe Yenni Stadium. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Both take 5-0 records into the clash.

Rummel has allowed just two field goals in its first five wins against Charlotte (North Carolina) Catholic (7-3); Slidell (37-0); Oak Grove, Mississippi (7-3); Ruston (41-0); and Archbishop Shaw (42-0).

Holy Cross in 1969 scored shutout wins in its first five games before Rummel ended the streak by scoring a touchdown in Week 6.

Brother Martin (5-0) is equally sound on defense entering the Catholic League game. Outscoring the opposition, 101-31, the Crusaders hold victories over Byrd (28-0), Carver (10-0), Ponchatoula (45-17) and league rivals Jesuit (31-7) and St. Augustine (27-7).
