Since the use of ultrasound, expectant couples routinely discover the gender of their child in the womb. Many have made “The Big Reveal” a huge celebration: A blue cake at a party means it’s a boy; a pink cake, a girl.
When Cory Howat, executive director of The Catholic Foundation, and his wife Molly found out they were expecting their fifth child, they decided to go with an only-in-New-Orleans “Rex Reveal.” Cory handed a sealed envelope to a friend who was riding in Rex, along with sets of blue and pink beads.
On Mardi Gras, the blue beads showered down on St. Charles Avenue. In August, the Howat family head count will read: four boys and one girl.
