Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
I extend to all of our faithful readers of the Clarion Herald my prayers for a blessed Easter season.
May the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ give you renewed hope and peace.
The Light of Christ!
At the Easter vigil, in a completely darkened church, the lit Easter candle is carried in and raised three times, and sung throughout the church is “The Light of Christ.” What a powerful symbol in a completely dark church.
The only light is the Easter candle, a sign of the risen Lord Jesus among us. Jesus comes into the darkness of the world and our lives to bring light. All those who participate in the Easter vigil light a candle. This is a powerful symbol that shows that we receive light and hope from Christ and his resurrection from the dead.
The Easter candle will remain in our churches for the entire Easter season – that is, through the Feast of Pentecost, June 8.
