The Clarion Herald: The ‘Good News,’ well written

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
For 50 years, the Clarion Herald has been a vital source of information and inspiration to Catholics in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. I join with the clergy, religious and lay faithful of the archdiocese to commend and support this important ministry of evangelization in our local church.

Every bishop at his ordination pledges himself to teach, govern and sanctify the people entrusted to his care. One of the ways I can teach most effectively is through my regular column and many other articles in the Clarion Herald, which reaches tens of thousands of people every week and allows us to keep them informed about how the Holy Spirit is moving in our church.

Since its first issue in February 1963 – and especially in the remarkable way it chronicled the rebirth of the Archdiocese of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina – the Clarion Herald has been heralded both within and beyond the Catholic press as one of the best diocesan newspapers in the United States.

The Clarion Herald has garnered numerous awards over the years from the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada for excellence in Catholic newswriting, photography, advertising and design.

I am very proud of the Clarion Herald and grateful to Peter Finney Jr. for his many years of dedicated ministry and to all those who work with him.

The Clarion Herald is the “Good News,” well written. Its stories, like well-told parables, have the capacity to change lives by illustrating how faith animates real people to help others and serve God.

Please join me in offering a prayer of thanks and in congratulating the Clarion Herald on its 50th anniversary.

For 50 years, the archdiocese has been blessed to have a clarion voice heralding the Good News.
That voice is clear and that voice is strong. It has taught us well.
