St. Scholastica Academy’s theology department revived the “Senior Outreach Day” by helping 12th-graders connect with the needy through volunteer service at various sites on Oct. 12.
Seniors served at the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen in Baton Rouge, helping nuns serve meals; Full of Grace Cafe in St. Amant, serving meals to widows; Ozanam Inn, preparing and serving a morning meal while interacting with clients; St. Clare Monastery in New Orleans, serving food through the “sandwich window”; and Arc of Greater New Orleans (ARC), assisting adults with special needs to sort Mardi Gras beads and trinkets for resale.
“I realized that I often forget how even one simple act of self-gift can bring so much joy and peace to others, as well as oneself,” said senior Abby Hayes.
