St. Scholastica Academy 2016 graduating seniors received awards at Class Night. The evening opened with a prayer led by senior class secretary Madeline Campo. Senior class public relations officer Amelia Hoffeld gave the welcome address to the family, friends, alumnae, and faculty who attended the ceremony. A reflection of the Class of 2016 was given by senior class vice president Alexis Gutierrez. Eileen Depreo, assistant principal, served as the mistress of ceremonies while Dr. Cissy LaForge, president of SSA, Mary Kathryn Villere, principal of SSA, Carol Pool, director of guidance, and Jennifer Grimley, dean of academics presented awards to the students. Before closing the awards ceremony, SSA alumnae association president Rebecca Koon Walker ’87, along with SSA alumnae, led the pledge inducting the graduates as alumnae.
The 2016 seniors were accepted to 86 different colleges and universities in 24 states, the District of Columbia and Paris, France and were offered over $10.6 million in scholarships, excluding TOPS.

The SSA Senior Class completed a total of 6,677 hours of service.
►1.Cecily McLean from the Covington “A.S.” Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood presented Beverly Brown with a Star Scholarship for exceling not only academically, but also outside the classroom. Brown also received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in recognition of her commitment to our nation through volunteer service and was recognized as the recipient of the West St. Tammany Exchange Club Award for demonstrating strength of character and service to her community, and as one of only 150 Coca Cola scholarship winners for her considerable accomplishments and potential in intellect and leadership.
► 2.The Harvey L. Foster Foundation awards science scholarship to a student who wishes to pursue a career in science or engineering went to Grace Mauberret. Mauberret was also awarded the Business Women’s Network of East St. Tammany Scholarship, which fosters professional development and networking opportunities to pave the way for future business women who share the same ideals and goals.
►2.Caroline Barkerding of the District Attorney’s office presented the District Attorney’s Good Citizenship Award to Grace Galeziewski for promoting good citizenship at SSA and the greater community.
►3.Elizabeth Harris was presented with the Good Citizenship Award by Mary Lea of The Wharton Chapter of the DAR for her academic achievement, community service and content of her essay “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.”
WWL-TV in conjunction with the McDonald’s Corporation honors honored senior Samantha Zelden as an athlete who exhibit excellence in the classroom and in athletics.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman award, given to a student athlete who has shown outstanding achievement academically, athletically and in the community, was awarded to Allyson Seals.
► 4.Breanne Bizette received the Emile Navarre Service Award and a $100 scholarship given by the family of Emile Navarre who will make a similar contribution to the St. Scholastica Academy Scholarship Fund in Breanne’s name.
►5.Mark Herman, first vice commander of American Legion Post No. 16 awarded Jennifer Fiorella with the American Legion Post 16 Scholarship Award and medal, the highest honor awarded an American who is always be guided by the highest and holiest ideals.
►6.Herb Hostler of the Elks Lodge presented senior Katherine Stolin with the Most Valuable Student Scholarship based on her academic achievement, leadership and community service.
►7. The Class of 2012 Recognition Award was given to Maggie Palopoli, agraduating senior who is genuinely friendly, respects classmates and teachers.
The Benedictine Legacy Award was presented to seniors Beverly Brown and Maggie Palopoli who exemplify the spirit of the Benedictine tradition by balancing the four Benedictine spirituality pillars of prayer, work, study, and community. They pray as if everything depends on God and studies in order to attain wisdom. They serve by being with others and for others. They grow and discover who they are as children of God.
►Samantha Zelden received the Sedes Sapientiae Award (Seat of Wisdom), the highest honor bestowed on a graduating senior who best exemplifies wisdom, which is the goal of Christian education; and finds its expression through service, leadership, courage, scholarship and concerns for others.
