Pre-freshmen Carter Impastato leaves his food donation in a classroom during the food collection.
For 15 years, St. Paul’s students have collected thousands of pounds of food for the hungry of St. Tammany and Washington parishes.
During a two-week drive – beginning in November – classrooms collected food and then brought it to the Covington Food Bank on the Thursday before Thanksgiving.
St. Paul’s gathered 10,600 pounds of food this year, providing Thanksgiving boxes for 300 families, said food bank’s Yvette Rousse. The fall food drive is the largest, single contributor to the local food bank. Students help the food bank with the “Stuff the Bus” campaign in the spring, and sophomores work at the food bank.
