St. Paul’s senior and Paper Wolf Editor-in-Chief, Nick Ashton, was awarded a four-year Manship Scholarship from the Louisiana State University Manship School of Mass Communications, beginning in the fall of 2017. The highest honor awarded to incoming freshmen by the program, the award is in recognition of Nick’s academic achievements, extra-curricular involvement and achievements in student media. As editor of both The Paper Wolf news site and the Conifer yearbook, Nick has garnered 16 personal journalism awards in state competitions, including numerous writing awards, first-place overall in Journalism I at the 2015 State Literary Rally and selection to represent the state of Louisiana at the 2016 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C. In addition, his work with St. Paul’s student media has helped the program to be named best in the state in 2015 and 2016 by the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association. As editor-in-chief, he also led The Paper Wolf to recognition by Columbia University’s scholastic press association with “All Columbian Honors” in 2015, meaning the news site ranks in the top 95 percent nationwide for journalism excellence.
