THE ST. PAUL’S SCHOOL, 917 S. Jahncke Ave., Covington – Since 1680, educational institutions in more than 80 countries have been influenced by the vision and innovative spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the patron saint of teachers.
De La Salle transformed education by forming a community of educators with whom he developed a spirituality of teaching and learning, to give a human and Christian education to young people, especially the poor.
Lasallian Education centers on Catholic values and personal relationships, emphasizing academic excellence, faith formation, inclusion, respect for the individual, service and social justice. A Lasallian education strives to enrich each student’s cultural, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual development.
Today, the De La Salle Christian Brothers and their Lasallian partners continue to respond to students through advancements in teaching, technology and scholarship. In Lasallian communities, educators touch hearts, stimulate minds and cultivate leadership to prepare students for life, work, and service to society and the church.
Situated on a beautiful, wooded, 40 acres in a residential neighborhood, the St. Paul’s campus includes academic buildings, library, chapel, theatre, gymnasium and a Field Turf football and soccer field , baseball and tennis facilities. The renovation of La Salle Hall adds state-of-the-art classroom space, new ROTC and guidance complexes, and offices for on-campus activities such as yearbook, journalism, robot and eco car construction, and a new fully equipped art studio.
Campus-wide wireless access, classroom computers, and several fully functioning computer labs facilitate modern teaching technology and immediate access to data for faculty, parents and students.
St. Paul’s is an accredited college preparatory high school that addresses the academic needs of its population. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are offered in all core subjects to those students who are willing to accept the challenge. A wide range of electives is available to supplement the required curriculum. Recently, engineering and biomedical programs have been added to the elective choices.
The school participates in 16 LHSAA-recognized sports at the junior high, junior varsity and varsity levels. In addition to an award-winning athletic program, St. Paul’s extracurricular activities encompass a wide range, including Air Force ROTC, band, drama, EcoCar Competition Team, Habitat for Humanity, Lasallian Youth, robot building and Student Hosts. A significant accomplishment of St. Paul’s is that the majority of the school population is involved in extracurricular activities.
The success of the school is best measured in the hearts and faces of the students and alumni; however, the millions of dollars in scholarships and the acceptance of the graduates into prominent colleges and universities across the nation demonstrate the achievement of this educational program.
Each day, St. Paul’s continues the spirit of St. La Salle with the application of the five core principles: faith in the presence of God; quality education; respect for all persons; inclusive community; and concern for the poor and social justice. A number of service opportunities exist on campus, and the campus ministry department requires 10 hours of service from each student every year.
Two awards are given to reward those students who demonstrate their commitment to community service by completing 50 and 100 service hours, The Brother Alfred Award, and the St. La Salle Award.
St. Paul’s embraces movement into the second century of Lasallian education by encouraging each young man to live the vision of St. La Salle and to “discover elements to incorporate into his maturing personality.” It pledges to provide an excellent education and “good place to grow.”
