St. Paul’s Senior, Trey Hughes, an honor student and son of Charles M. Hughes, Jr. of Covington and Connie N. Phillips of Mandeville, awarded a $2,000.00 scholarship from The Kelly Gibson Foundation on behalf of the Mackel Foundation as a junior golfer who participates in the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour based on community service, academic achievements, and financial need; regardless of the players’ golfing ability. All members of the KGJGT who are at least juniors in high school are eligible to receive scholarships. Trey has been a member of the Saint Paul’s Varsity Golf Team since his freshman year, and he was team captain in his junior year. And he was recognized for his creative writing ability by Ducks Unlimited who awarded him the Scholastic Art and Writing Award for 2016. Trey’s original short story is titled, “The Hunt, First In and First Out,” published recently in “Hunting Stories” by Ducks Unlimited.
