Summer camp at St. Martin’s Episcopal offers something for every child over nine weeks this summer.
“We have a very diverse range of camps from athletic camps, theme camps and science camps,” St. Martin’s Summer Experience camp director
Christina Spako said.
Among the 2014 camps: a visual arts session introducing campers to different materials and design with age-appropriate projects and an end-of-camp art show (June 2-20, $515); Lagniappe Camp to develop life skills including character, leadership, fitness (June 23-July 11, $515); a Performing Arts camp performing “Little Mermaid” (July 14-Aug. 1, $515); Summer Cottage Camp (June 2-Aug. 1, $210 a week including lunch) for younger campers on campus. Campers swim (except for 4 years and younger) every day.
Athletic camps for boys and girls ages 6-13 are offered in basketball (June 2-6, July 14-18), Sports Academy (June 16-20) and Top Gun Sports (June 9-13, July 7-11). Boys also have a baseball camp (June 23-27). Athletic camp fees are $195 a week.
Other camps include Lego Simple Machines I and II; Spanish immersion; Rocketry I, II, III, IV; Lego Spybotics; Chemistry Camp and Techno Kid. There also are summer academic courses in English, math, social studies, life skills and jump start to get ahead in language arts and/or math ($230-280 per subject).
To get a sneak peak at each camp, St. Martin’s will host an open house for parents and students on May 31 from 1-3 p.m., Spako said.
“We really encourage people to come,” she said. “We will have every camp represented.
She also emphasized that camp counselors are college age or older, and the majority are certified teachers.
“We don’t have kids watching kids,” Spako said.
Camp hours are 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. weekdays, with before- and after-camp care and hot lunch available. Walk-ins are accepted until the first day of each session. St. Martin’s is located at 225 Green Acres Road in Metairie.
