Campers who like to stay cool in the summer with a dip in the swimming pool will really enjoy St. Louis King of France’s Camp Crusader 2012.
The school offers an on-site swimming pool with lifeguards in which campers can relax and beat the heat day after day.
The summer day camp is for boys and girls, from pre-K4 through seventh grade.
Mary Bordelon, a second-grade teacher at St. Louis King of France who is returning as camp director, said Camp Crusader is so popular children “beg to come every week.”
“We had several parents tell us the students preferred our camp over many others they had attended,” Bordelon said. “In addition to the onsite swimming pool and certified lifeguards, we also have two certified instructors for swimming lessons, who teach lessons after camp.”
The fun comes to them
Campers remain on campus at all times and have onsite presentations brought to them twice a week. Those activities include seminars from Audubon Zoo, aquavan, bugmobile, wetland express, Save Our Lake, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and fitness experts.
Over and above the daily sports activities, arts and crafts and computer, Camp Crusader offers weekly science fun, drama and music, food fun, and Bible lessons. It’s actually a mini-vacation Bible school.
“We keep them busy from 9 to 3,” Bordelon said. “We try to keep our groups small, with lots of counselors who are mostly college-age men and women. Most of our counselors from last year are returning, so I feel that’s a great testament to our program.”
Weekly sessions, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held May 29-July 27. Extended care is available.
Cost is $125 per week or $345 for a three-week session. The three-week session requires advanced registration. The $50 registration fee includes a camp T-shirt.
