The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children and Marathon Petroleum Corporation recently selected St. Charles Catholic High School to receive two interactive whiteboards and lab equipment for its science classrooms.
The award includes laptops, Promethean interactive whiteboards with speaker systems and interactive response systems, software, all installation and instructor training.
The boards, installation, laptaps, 3-year warranty and teacher training is valued at $10,000. The Foundation also is awarding St. Charles Catholic High science teachers an allotment of $2,000 to purchase science equipment including microscopes, prepared slide sets, heat conductometer rods, water test kits and light energy kits.
The Supriya Jindal Foundation was created to expand technology in Louisiana classrooms and to emphasize the importance of science and math.
“St. Charles Catholic High School recognizes that our goals are shared with the Jindal Foundation,” said Drew Cupit, St. Charles Catholic principal. “The Promethean boards and our one-to-one iPad program certainly enhance our science curriculum.”
Science instruction at St. Charles Catholic encourages critical thinking, analysis and research within the classroom and at home. Project-based learning helps students further understand chemistry and physics. The goal is to expose the students to science, technology, engineering and math concepts as well as teamwork, design, testing and problem solving.
SCC teachers use The Modeling Method of High School Physics Instruction in order to use guided inquiry in science teaching. Their project-based lessons are fully aligned with National Science Education Standards.
