St. Joseph, the protector of Mary and their son Jesus, is needed today more than ever with the onset of the coronavirus outbreak.
This being St. Joseph's Day and parish altars being canceled citywide, altar workers are being inventive to make sure that people are able to honor St. Joseph on his feast day.
St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Metairie had made 8,000 cookies in preparation for this year’s altar. What did they do with the cookies?
Well, they did a drive-thru and handed out bags of cookies with a fava bean, blessed bread and St. Joseph prayer card. Some bags were also being put in the food boxes that the parish was giving out through its St. Vincent de Paul Society to help those in need of food.
Workers were encouraging people to pray to St. Joseph and participate in the worldwide rosary at 3 p.m. that Pope Francis called for today.
