Sister Mary Angelique Foto, a Sister of Mercy for 61 years, died June 11 at her community’s retirement home in St. Louis. She was 79.
Born in New Orleans on Nov. 15, 1934, Sister Angelique entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1953 and professed her perpetual vows in 1959. She earned a bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology from St. Louis University and a master’s degree in health care administration from Ohio State University in Columbus.
Sister Angelique served at Mercy hospitals in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and had a long ministry at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, in radiologic technology and health care administration. Since 2009 she had ministered in the human resources and mission departments of Mercy Health System.
She is survived by her brothers, Anthony J. Foto of Kenner and Jacob “Jake” Foto of Metairie; nephews Joseph “Roch” Weilbaecher and Dominic Weilbaecher; and a niece, Desiree Adams. A Funeral Mass was celebrated June 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Kenner. Interment was at St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3.
