Sister of Christian Charity Irma Dreger, who taught in the 1940s at St. Francis of Assisi School in New Orleans, died on May 19, at Sacred Heart Convent, Wilmette, Illinois. Sister Irma was 97 and had served for 80 years in religious life.
A native of Chicago, Sister Irma entered the postulancy in 1933. She made her perpetual profession of vows on Aug. 20, 1942.
From 1940-49, she taught first and second grades at St. Francis of Assisi School in New Orleans. She spent the rest of her religious life teaching at schools in Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa.
In 2005, she continued her work translating German letters and writing the Western Province’s obituary letters. In 2006, she became assistant editor of the SVD Missionary Magazine, Divine Word.
Sister Irma was buried in the Sisters’ cemetery in Wilmette.
