Sister of the Living Word Angela Ashbey (nee Arlene Loretta Ashbey), a former teacher and youth coach at several Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, died Jan 11 following a long illness at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans. She was 81.
Sister Angela was born on June 21, 1940, to Arledge Henry Ashbey and Lillian May Kratzberg. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Ashbey; cousin, Mary Ann Morris; nieces and nephews; many friends in the Sisters of Christian Charity and the Sisters of the Living Word; and her dear friend, Agnes Tranchina.
Sister Angela was educated by the Sisters of Christian Charity at St. Raphael the Archangel School in New Orleans. In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, she taught at St. Raphael, St. Francis Assisi, St. Alphonsus and St. Mary Magdalen. Later, she was a pastoral minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Kenner; St. John the Baptist in Brusly, Louisiana; St. Mary’s of Kickapoo, Illinois; St. Brendan in Mexico, Missouri; and Wynhoven Health Care Center in Marrero.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 20 at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Metairie.
