Soccer titles a Catholic school tradition

    Louisiana High School soccer championships and New Orleans Catholic schools are synonymous with each other.
    Jesuit, the top seed in Division I, gained a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 victory over No. 2 St. Paul’s on Feb. 25 to capture its 11th state soccer crown as Charles Mansour kicked two late goals.
    Just a few hours earlier, Mount Carmel Academy, also rallied from behind to get past St. Scholastica, 2-1, when Kristen Delaune headed in the winning goal with 30 seconds left in the Division I girls’ championship match.
    And not to be outdone, the Academy of the Sacred Heart won its third straight Division III girls’ state title, behind senior Kristen Kern’s two goals, which gave the Cardinals a 2-0 victory over Episcopal of Baton Rouge.
    All matches were played at Tad Gormley Stadium.
