Sister Gloria Irizarry Rodriguez, a Sister Servant of Mary, minister to the sick, died July 25, after a long illness. She was 63.
Sister Gloria was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, on Nov. 21, 1954. At age 13, her family moved to New York. By age 19, she had joined the Congregation of the Servants of Mary.
She had lived in New Orleans since 1982 where she cared for the sick at no cost to families in their homes.
She is preceded in death by her parents Santos Irizarry and Isabel Rodriguez.
Sister Gloria is survived by her siblings Rosa Irizarry Ruiz, Santos Irizarry, Luis Irizarry and her nephew Eric Ruiz. She was loved by her religious community and many dear friends who came to know her through the years.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 31 at the community’s convent in New Orleans. She was buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
