Archbishop Shaw High School recently held its annual science fair judged by representatives from Olin Chemicals in Geismar and Motiva in Norco.
Top winners and their projects in the senior division were Kory Victoriano, “Parachute Design,” energy and transportation, and Jace Brendstetter, “Paintball Ballistics.” The junior division top winner was Jason LeBlanc for his “Airplane Design vs. Distance” project.
“My project was basically an experiment showing each parachute’s time in the air based on wind conditions and the shapes of the different parachutes,” Victoriano said. “It actually took me about eight hours to work on getting the results. The wind wasn’t cooperating.”
Sophomore Randall Michel says it took a week to demonstrate how levees work and how, over time, water erodes the dirt under the levees, causing them to fail.
Other senior division winners were Jace Comeaux, Nicholas Williams, Joseph Casso and Douglas Dowden, physics; Charles Jones and Tyler Pollet, computer science; Daniel Talley, animal science; Ethan Tran, Thien-An Duong, Cullen Narcisse and Cameron Troxler, chemistry; Damian Patzan, earth and planetary science; Daniel Nguyen, mathematics; Randall Michel, environmental management.
Awards in behavioral science went to Darrell Domingue, Christian Nguyen and Josh DiSalvo. Environmental Science winners were Justin Ortega and Adam Albarado. Engineering winners included Greg Tokuyama, Ryan Mendez and Rashad Reeves. Recognized in the engineering materials and bioengineering category were Ryan Bujol, Nick Comeaux. Ryan Mundt, Patrick Thompson and Travis Evans.
