Seven Sisters of the Holy Family celebrated a combined total of 455 years of consecrated service to the people of God June 8 with a Mass at the Motherhouse.
The jubilarians were Sister Mary de Lima Hazeur, 75 years; Sister Mary Magdalene de Pazzi Andry, Sister Mary Prompt Succor Arceneaux and Sister Mary Luke Rubit, 70 years; Sister Marian Perpetua Lacroix and Sister Claudia Marie Citizen, 60 years; and Sister Maria Gonzales, 50 years.
➤ Sister Mary de Lima entered the congregation from St. Rose de Lima Parish in Bay St. Louis, Miss. “His love is everlasting,” she said. “My heart overflows with gratitude to God expressed in the deep love of my family, especially my own sister, Sister M. Bertille Hazeur, and each of my beloved Sisters of the Holy Family with whom I have served 75 years, as well as the children and adults whom I have served.”
➤ Sister Mary Magdalene, a native of Chastang, Ala., received her degree from Cardinal Stritch College. One of her favorite assignments was at St. Michael Special School in New Orleans. Her favorite prayer is the Magnificat.
➤ Sister Mary Prompt Succor entered the congregation from Corpus Christi Parish in New Orleans. She is very proud of her grandfather, Menard Nelson, who had an elementary school named in his honor. She enjoyed her work in Tulsa and Okmulgee, Okla. Her favorite quote is from the Magnificat: “He has put down the mighty from their thrones and has exalted the lowly.”
➤ Sister Mary Luke entered from St. John Berchmans Parish in Cankton, La. “God called me to the Sisters of the Holy Family, and his love and mercy have carried me for 70 years in his service,” she said. “I praise God for the grace of religious life in the community of the Sisters of the Holy Family. To serve God and his people is my delight and joy. I give thanks for my parents and family who are God’s gifts to me.”
➤ Sister Marian Perpetua entered the sisters from St. Philip Parish in New Orleans. Her favorite Scripture quote is “God has loved me with an everlasting love.” She expresses her sincere gratitude to God, her wonderful priests, sisters, brothers and other relatives and friends, the Sisters of the Holy Family, the Josephite priests for their prayers and encouragement and love during her religious life.
➤ Sister Claudia Marie entered from Our Mother of Mercy Parish in Church Point, La. Her favorite mission assignment was at Lafon Child Development Center, where she enjoyed interacting with the toddlers. She thanks her loving parents and her siblings for having encouraged and supported her during her religious life.
➤ Sister Maria entered the congregation from the former Sacred Heart Parish in Slidell. Her favorite Scripture passage is “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13). “I thank God Almighty for calling me to serve him and his people for the past 50 years,” she said. “My gratitude also extends to my parents, family and friends whose prayers, love, and support have been an inspiration to me, especially during challenging times. God has blessed me in my ministries as teacher, secretary for our congregation and currently as client and volunteer at the Lighthouse for the Blind.”
