Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Office of Religious Education are gearing up for their annual “SERVE” – Students Engaging in Reflective Volunteer Experiences – summer camps for high school students.
Now in its fourth year, SERVE enables local teens to give back to their community while obtaining the service hours required by their high schools.
This summer SERVE will operate three 40-hour service camps, two “mini-SERVE” camps and will coordinate service camps at three sites on the Northshore.
This year’s SERVE dates and sites are:
➤ June 11-15: Summer Witness camp at St. Peter Claver Parish (Treme); Ozanam Inn (CBD); and Good Shepherd Summer Program (CBD).
➤ June 18-22: Summer Witness camp at St. Peter Claver Parish and Good Shepherd Summer Program.
➤ June 25-29: Mini-SERVE camps (20 hours) at these Head Start centers: Louise (Uptown); Incarnate Word (Carrollton); St. John the Baptist (Central City); and El Yo-Yo Bilingual (Uptown).
➤ July 16-20: Faith Bible (Covington); Rouquette Lodge Senior Citizens (Mandeville); and Alpha House Senior Citizens and Special Needs Adults (Covington).
➤ July 24-27: Mini-SERVE camp (12 hours) at Second Harvest Food Bank (Harahan); morning/afternoon shifts.
SERVE volunteers must be incoming high school freshman through seniors. Registration is a non-refundable fee of $30 for SERVE and $15 for Mini-SERVE.
Limited slots are available; T-shirts given to participants.
