At the June 22 Mass marking the archdiocesan celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi, Archbishop Gregory Aymond urged worshipers assembled inside St. Stephen Church in Good Shepherd Parish to embrace the spirit of the Family Prayer by praying for an end to violence, murder and racism. “Jesus is as present to us (in the Eucharist) as he was to the apostles at the Last Supper; he is as present to us as he was to the women at the tomb; he is as present to us as he was when the apostles saw him ascending into heaven,” said the archbishop during the homily. After Mass, Archbishop Aymond, bearing a monstrance containing a consecrated host, led the faithful in a eucharistic procession around the parish plant. Archbishop Aymond also reminded congregants that when they receive Christ’s body and blood, they must not keep these gifts to themselves but share them with a world that hungers for God. “When we leave Mass every Sunday, we don’t just depart; we are sent to be the Eucharist for others – to bring Jesus, who lives within us, to others in the home, in the workplace, in our schools and in the neighborhood,” he said.
