Second Harvest Food Bank Greater New Orleans and Acadiana seeks 200 volunteers on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. to gather items left over from vendors and exhibitors of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit Convention and Expo at the New Orleans Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Blvd., New Orleans.
Volunteers are asked to arrive at the center no later than 5 p.m. The end time is anticipated between 9 and 10 p.m., depending on how quickly the task is completed.
Volunteers will work with the Second Harvest team to box fresh items for donation. “The items will go in large crates or boxes, placed on pallets, will be wrapped and loaded onto trucks,” said Second Harvest’s Melanie Hoeman.
Volunteers must be able to stand at least two hours at a time, and lift, push and pull at least 30 pounds. Double service hours are given to students needing hours for school.
To volunteer, contact Hoeman at mhoeman@secondharvest.org or 729-2834.
