Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana has 22 AmeriCorps VISTA positions and several volunteer shifts that it is trying to fill for the summer in its Community Kitchen. May 20 is the deadline to apply for the AmeriCorps jobs.
Two or three shifts will be available every day from May 28-Aug. 2, with some shifts beginning as early as 6 a.m.
AmeriCorps VISTA workers are called Summer Associates and will be paid bi-weekly for a total wage of $2,142. (An education award or stipend will be granted upon completion.)
Criteria to be an associate includes being at least 18 years old, ability to serve the entire 10 weeks, being a U.S. citizen or national or legal resident, have own transportation and not be listed on the National Sex Offenders Public Registry.
Volunteers are asked to work at least three volunteer shifts within the 10-week summer session.
AmeriCorps workers and volunteers will mainly work to fill orders for breakfast and lunch for the Summer Feeding Program that feeds approximately 4,000 children in need participating in summer camps throughout the area. Second Harvest is bolstering its breakfast offerings to children this year by adding two hot breakfasts.
