School Sister of Notre Dame Ann Roddy died Nov. 2 at St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, Miss. She was 76 and had served for 57 years in religious life.
A native of St. Louis, Sister Ann was received into the congregation and professed her vows as Sister Mary Kevin in 1956.
For 23 years she taught art and theology at Mount Carmel High School in Houston; St. Mary of the Pines Academy in Chatawa, Miss.; Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge; and Immaculata High School in Marrero.
In 1979, Sister Ann returning to her baptismal name and found expression and a market for her talents, emerging as an artist on Jackson Square. She exhibited in galleries and furnished sketches for publications.
She ministered part time to those suffering with HIV-AIDS at Tau House, an ecumenical endeavor. She was director of ministry to the Tau House community.
Sister Ann moved to St. Mary of the Pines just a few months before her death. Her funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 6 at St. Teresa Church in Chatawa. She was buried at the Chatawa Cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters, Lynn Schmitz and Miriam Roddy, and three brothers, Hugh, Bill and Robert. Memorials may be made to School Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Mary of the Pines, Chatawa, MS, 39657.
