More than 300 people packed the ballroom at Xavier University of Louisiana March 8 for Sankofa, a Lenten Day of Reflection, sponsored by the Office of Black Catholic Ministries of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Above, speaker Kaffy Babineaux Belvin, a pastoral associate at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Lafayette, discussed where black Catholics have been. Other speakers touched on where black Catholics are today and where they are headed. Below, attendees share the work of their parish ministries with each other. It was a day of prayer that encouraged everyone to be witnesses of faith. “All of us in the name of Christ are called to be teachers,” Belvin said.
