We must vote
Metairie
Regarding “Catholics can help end gridlock” (July 7, 2012 issue), we do not agree with Supreme Knight Carl Anderson when he says “withholding a vote may at times be the most effective vote.”
Those who do not vote are allowing someone else to choose candidates for them.
During a recent Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle, Father Warren Cooper gave a most moving homily about the right and privilege we have to vote. He considers it a moral duty to vote. It was the first time everyone clapped after a homily.
There may never be a perfect candidate, but we have to consider the issues and choose the candidate that will not take away the basic liberty guaranteed us by the Constitution. There has been a time when we had to choose the candidate who was the least evil. Anderson’s statement is misguided.
