Ye Olde College Inn has opened its walls to 11 more inductees to the New Orleans High School Sports Hall of Fame, bringing the total number of honorees to 94.
The restaurant, located at 3000 South Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans, is the home of this tribute to local high school sports legends.
The most recent class of inductees include (alphabetically):
➤ Eddie Bravo, St. Aloysius football and basketball standout and longtime high school and NFL official.
➤ Ray Coates, star back of Jesuit’s 1943 state championship football team and its coach for nine seasons.
➤ Herman “Butch” Duhe, Holy Cross’ All-State quarterback of the 1965 and 1966 Catholic League powerhouse.
➤ Charles “Peggy” Flournoy, one of the city’s earliest stars as a triple-threat tailback for Rugby Academy .
➤ Sam Holden, the top lineman on St. Augustine’s 1965 LIALO state championship team and former New Orleans Saint.
➤ James “Pel” Hughes, four-sport letterman for Jesuit during the early 1930s.
➤ Aaron James, Cohen’s basketball star, who led the city in scoring as a senior, led the nation at Grambling, and was the New Orleans Jazz’ first draft choice in 1974.
➤ William “Buck” Seeber, coached Nicholls, Fortier and De La Salle to city football championships from 1940-1961.
➤ Neil Smith, a tackle from McDonogh 35 who became one of Nebraska’s and the NFL’s defensive greats.
➤ Daniel “Rusty” Staub, hard-hitting outfielder, who led Jesuit to state and American Legion championships in 1961 and then had a long professional career.
➤ Don Wattigny, All-Star quarterback for Holy Name of Mary’s 1955 Class B champions and coach of Edna Karr’s early outstanding teams.
