To all Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Archdiocese of New Orleans:
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
As you know, the respect for human life, especially for our sisters and brothers in the womb, is of the utmost concern for Catholics in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. At the same time, caring for the less fortunate, including pregnant mothers in need, is integral to living out the “Gospel of Life.”
This summer, we expect the U.S. Supreme Court to issue a decision in the abortion-related case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health that could alter or even overturn Roe v. Wade. This decision could allow Louisiana, through existing state laws, to protect the lives of more unborn babies. Please join me in prayer for the Supreme Court and the justices. Lord, please grant them discernment, courage and strength to make wise decisions that safeguard the rights of the least among us.
Regardless of the decision, the Archdiocese of New Orleans stands with open arms to help mothers in crisis pregnancies. Our pro-life commitment includes loving both the baby and the mom.
Through Catholic Charities Pregnancy Services, St. Vincent Maternity Clinic, Adoption Services, the Woman’s New Life Center and other ministries, we provide a wide variety of free, confidential and caring pregnancy and parenting assistance services. In addition, many other public and private agencies in the area offer services to help mothers and families in need.
I look forward to a day when the legal right to human life is restored in Louisiana. Let us continue to pray and work for a greater respect for the dignity of life, especially for the unborn, and to support every mother and family in need.
Wishing you God’s blessing and asking you to join me in prayer, I am
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Rev. Gregory M. Aymond
Archbishop of New Orleans
