Parishes, schools plan 9/11 commemorations

    Mary, Queen of Peace, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville: Sept. 11, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., “Celebrate Health! Celebrate Life!” Wellness Fair honoring victims of 9/11 and women and men in the military with a patriotic theme. Presentation of Colors by Boy Scout Troop 310 Color Guard and the Harry Tompson Knights of Columbus No. 2922 Color Guard. Father Ronald Calkins, pastor, and the color guards will lead a procession from the church after 8 a.m. Mass.

    Pope John Paul II High School, 1901 Jaguar Dr., Slidell: Sept. 6, commemorative prayer service in the school gym at 7:30 a.m.

    St. Anthony of Padua Church, 234 Angus Dr., Luling: Sept. 11, 8 a.m. Mass to honor first responders.
  

     St. Mary of the Angels Church, 3501 North Miro St., New Orleans: Sept. 11, 10 a.m. Mass with special intention and blessing of all first responders.
   

    St. Peter School, 188 W. 7th St., Reserve: Sept. 8, 8:10 a.m. commemorative prayer service.
    

    St. Scholastica Academy, 122 S. Massachusetts St., Covington: Sept. 12, an American flag flown in Iraq will be flown at half mast all week; food drive in memory of those who lost their lives and honoring first responders; Sept. 14, 9:15 a.m., school Mass.
    

    Visitation of Our Lady Church, 3500 Ames Blvd., Marrero:  Sept. 11, 3-5 p.m., Patriot Day Memorial and Celebration in the parking lot in front of Padre Hall II. Music by the New Orleans Navy Band with U.S. Attorney Jim Letten as guest speaker. Lawn chairs welcome. U.S. flags no longer suitable for display may be brought for proper retirement by Boy Scouts.
