Cardinal John P. Foley, who served for many years as the president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Social Communications, gave a heartfelt speech at the 2011 Catholic Media Convention in Pittsburgh June 23 at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Cardinal Foley, who retired in February, relates how he got into the Catholic press as a summer intern for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Catholic Standard and Times. He also explains why the Catholic press remains such a priority today in informing, forming and inspiring Catholics. He also includes some of the best Catholic jokes ever told – with his trademark deadpan delivery.
