The 16th annual National Catholic Educational Association’s Principals Forum, an event designed to enhance the skills of sitting principals or those aspiring to become principals, will be held Nov. 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.
About 150 principals and aspiring principals from across the country are expected to attend the gathering, which will include speakers and workshops on a variety of educational issues.
The forum opens Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. with a reception followed by an opening banquet, continues with a full day of workshops on Nov. 9 and concludes with a half-day of workshops and a prayer service on Nov. 10.
Kathy Mears, a member of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the incoming new executive director of the NCEA’s Elementary Schools department, will host and lead the forum. She succeeds De La Salle Christian Brother Robert Bimonte, who has been named NCEA executive vice president.
Some of the workshop sessions include “Got Virtues?” (Amy Amos-Allen); “Unleashing Creativity and Passion by Focusing on the Learning: Does Your Staff See You as a Mentor?” (Barbara Barreda); “The Business of Education: The Story of a Turnaround” Rick Kruska, Ed.D.); “No Guts, No Glory: What It Takes to Be a Catholic School Leader in the Twenty-First Century” and “Transitioning Your School to Cost-Based/Needs-Based: One School’s Success Story” (Donna Moss); “My Job Description Includes … Everything!” and “Latino Students: Possibility and Promise” (Carmen J. Vadillo); “Helping the Weakest Link: The Marginal Teacher” and “Issues of Hiring Good Teachers” (Christian Brother Raymond J. Vercruyese, Ed.D.).
Other workshops are still being planned.
