HAMMOND, La. – It was a good news, bad news afternoon for Mount Carmel Academy and St. Mary's Dominican in the Division I state basketball semifinals.
Mount Carmel senior Taylor Wilkins scored a game-high 26 points as the No. 1 seeded Cubs won their Division I semifinal round game over No. 4 Scotlandville, 55-44, on Wednesday.
Wilkins also pulled down 12 rebounds in running her team’s record to 22-5. Mount Carmel will face No. 2 John Curtis in the championship game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the University Center.
It was another story for Dominican, which dropped a 48-37 decision to John Curtis. Anaya Yunusah led Dominican scorers with 18 points, but her effort was not enough. Domican’s senior center Grace Hamblin found room to dribble around a double-team (above).
