On April 6, families in the Archdiocese of New Orleans are being encouraged to spend the morning working together in a spirit of service, whether that means staying home to spruce up the yard or helping a neighbor or stranger in need.
The type of service activity is less important than the fact that family members work in collaboration, said Family Life Apostolate Director Deacon Drea Capaci, noting that the Saturday event was devised by the planning committee for the ongoing Year of Family and Faith.
“We want to continue to encourage families to do things together, and what better way to do this than by giving service to our family or someone else?” Capaci said.
While it is up to each family to choose its particular service project, Capaci foresees families praying together after their work is done and then having an extended lunch together.
A prayer families can say together, entitled “We Are Family,” can be downloaded from the website, www.arch-no.org/yff. Click on the link “Morning of Service Prayer.”
“We’re going to do something similar on Nov. 16, but it’s going to be a morning of service for your church parish,” Capaci said.
