Monica among HOF inductees

The 2019-20 school year may be Frank Monica’s last as athletic director and head football coach at St. Charles Catholic High School, but he will leave the athletic program he has overseen for the last 21 years in a memorable way.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association honored Monica by inducting him into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Monica was one of eight inductees honored April 2 at the Crowne Plaza grand ballroom.

Monica, a 49-year coach at both the high school and college level, joined former LHSAA assistant executive director Keith Alexander, coaches Ted Davidson of Acadiana, Claney Duplechin of Baton Rouge Episcopal and James Waguespack of Cecilia high schools.

Also inducted were Jason Garey, a soccer standout at St. Amant, Danielle Scott, a former Olympic volleyball great from Baton Rouge Woodlawn High and sportswriter Robin Fambrough of the Baton Rouge Advocate.

Monica, a staple of the River Parishes community,  coached  12 years at Tulane University. He also mentored football teams at Jesuit, Riverside Academy and Lutcher, his alma mater.

Monica has posted a career record of 269 wins and four state championships.
