More than 300 teens from 16 schools participated in a day of service to commemorate the Martin Luther King Day On/Not Off Jan. 19 throughout New Orleans area.
The annual event, sponsored by the archdiocesan offices of Black Catholic Ministries, Racial Harmony, Religious Education, Catholic Schools Office, CYO and Young Adult Ministries and Catholic Charities, brought people together for prayer first at Jesuit High School and then for service at various sites around town.
Groups from Brother Martin, Holy Rosary, Mount Carmel Academy, Pope John Paul, St. Augustine High, St. Augustine Church, St. Christopher, St. Dominic, St. Gabriel, St. Jerome, St. Paul’s and Xavier Preparatory School did sprucing up, gardening and other light construction projects on school campuses, at playgrounds, at a Catholic senior residence in LaPlace and in Jean Lafitte Park and City Park.
