St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan will host an Advent mission, “Formation of the Christian Heart,” by Susan Muto, Ph.D., Dec. 12-14, from 7-9 p.m.; and Dec. 13-15, 9-11 a.m.
Muto is co-founder and executive director of the Epiphany Association and dean of the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has authored over 40 books on various aspects of spirituality, motivation and the power of appreciation to help people cope with their daily lives and be uplifted by the truth of Scripture.
She said learning how to be joyful is the crux of the mission.
“What someone will hear is that our heart is a veritable battlefield between joy and sorrow,” Muto said. “I want to focus on the importance of cultivating that joyful heart as opposed to letting sorrow invade you … and so overwhelm you that you diminish your capacity for hope, gratitude and happiness.”
