A Memorial Mass will be celebrated May 26 at 3 p.m. at St. Hubert Church in Garyville for Sister of the Holy Faith Geraldine Moran, who died April 10 in Dublin after having served as director of religious education in four parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Sister Geraldine had served 50 years in religious life.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Charles Caluda, former pastor of St. Hubert, where she established the Hermitage Retreat House and offered spiritual direction as part of the staff of the Archdiocesan Spirituality Center. A reception will follow.
Sister Geraldine served as director of religious education at St. Louis de Marillac and St. Robert Bellarmine parishes in St. Bernard and at St. Philip Parish in New Orleans. In 1989, she went to St. Hubert Parish, where she ministered as DRE, began the RCIA program and taught certification courses catechists.
She is remembered for her ministry to the needy, the sick, the homebound and bereaved, her cheerful and sensitive presence, her open door and warm welcome, her barbecues and parties and her gift for inspiring parishioners to get involved in ministries.
She began the Holy Faith Sisters Associate Process in the U.S., convinced that the only way the mission of the Holy Faith Sisters could continue into the future was through a group of dedicated associates living the charism of their foundress, Margaret Aylward.
Soon after her return to Ireland, Sister Geraldine began a long struggle with cancer but continued to share her great love for the Icon of the Trinity in hospital wards and clinics.
Prior to coming to the U.S. in 1985, Sister Geraldine ministered in Trinidad, West Indies, New Zealand and Ireland. She is survived by her sister, two brothers, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews.
