For its exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that serve to improve the school and community, the Mount Carmel Academy Student Council has been recognized as a 2022 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council (NatStuCo).
The NatStuCo program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
MCA’s Student Council has 230 members, with six serving on the executive board. Students planned and executed more than 20 events in the 2021-22 school year, impacting the student body and the community in positive ways.
As part of a new service project, students volunteered to help Hotel Hope, a non-profit that provides shelter and support to women and children experiencing homelessness. They also reinstated activities paused due to the pandemic – a school-wide bead drive for St. Michael Special School, an overnight leadership retreat, a blacklight pep rally and many community-building activities and events.
“Receiving a National Gold Council of Excellence Award shows the utmost dedication a school’s students, leaders and staff have made to make their community a better place,” said Ronn Nozoe, CEO of NASSP. “Mount Carmel Academy has gone above and beyond in elevating student voices to ensure they’re establishing a positive climate and culture, as well as fostering academic and social growth for all.”
Led by moderators Madi Hannan, Alayna Gonzales and Megan Spruell, the MCA Student Council aims to cultivate growth, kindness, service and humility in its student leaders.
“This award took an entire year of planning and dedication from our executive board, and we are proud of the hard work put in to be recognized for this prestigious award” Hannan said.
