Since his sophomore spring of 2012, St. Paul’s Zachary Albright has been making his mark on Louisiana high school track and field. Now, as a senior, Albright is ready for a grand finale.
And it started last weekend when he not only shattered his 1,600-meter run indoor mark of 4:19.31 but also erased the Carl Maddox Field House record by running 4:18.31 at the LSU High School qualifier indoor meet.
And now he’s set to take aim at another record at the LHSAA Indoor Championship Meet on Feb. 22 at the Maddox facility.
St. Paul’s distance runners tied a meet record by winning the 4×800-meter relay in 8:17.54. Albright was part of that team.
St. Paul’s Eric Coston added his name to the watch list by winning the 3,200-meter run in 9:41.27.
In women’s events, the reigning Class 2A high jump champion, Ellie Silvia of Academy of the Sacred Heart, finished second in the high jump. Her 5-4 leap was equal to the height of the winner, Quanese Jones of Ruston, but Jones won on fewer misses.
Sacred Heart’s 4×800-meter relay team placed third behind St. Joseph’s Academy and St. Thomas More, both larger schools.
Keterra Harris of St. Mary’s Academy scored in two events by finishing second to McDonogh 35’s unbeaten Marquita Stalbert in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.90, and by placing third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.00.
