Archbishop Gregory Aymond admits he wasn’t much of an athlete, which made the reception he hosted Jan. 9 for the East Bank Little Leaguers even more special. The archbishop gave each member of the team that captured the Little League World Series last summer a medal of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes.
“He had great strength, great stamina, great perseverance, great courage,” Archbishop Aymond said. In blessing the medals, the archbishop asked God “to bless these young men, who have truly been world champions. We ask you to be a light to them for the rest of their lives that they may be men of strength, courage and integrity.” Asked if he could hit a curve ball as a kid, the archbishop smiled and replied: “I can answer that very easily and honestly – no!”
