If all the noise were silence

If the big city lights were replaced by the star that guided the three wise men,

If the craziness of shoppers were replaced by the calmness of viewers at the manger,

If the hectic shopping was replaced by goodwill and cheer,

Would Christmas be better?

If Mrs. Claus was replaced by Mary,

If people wrote out Christmas instead of X-Mas,

If Jesus was glorified instead of that jolly man,

Would Christmas become more whole?

If we baked a birthday cake for Jesus instead of cookies for Santa,

If we sang songs instead of artificial tunes,

If we appreciated gifts for their meaning and not their cash value,

Would Christmas have more significance?

If all of the noise was silenced and we reflected on how we treat this holiday,

Would Christmas be the same?
