Cabrini High School’s annual Green and Gold Quest speech tournament attracted more than 100 participants from 12 local middle and high schools.
The tournament is sanctioned by the New Orleans Catholic Forensic League and the Louisiana State Speech League and attracts major speech and debate teams from around the metropolitan New Orleans area.
Competitors finishing in the top three in each category qualified for the state competition scheduled this spring in Lafayette.
This year’s tournament had 10 categories: duo reading, impromptu, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, declamation, oral interpretation, advanced Lincoln Douglas debate and novice Lincoln Douglas debate.
Holy Cross placed first, winning the sweepstakes award for total wins, followed by Benjamin Franklin, second, and Archbishop Chapelle, in third.
